Fibroids affect up to 80% of women at some point in their lifetime. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about fibroids, how to shrink them, and why they happen in the first place. You can actually shrink your fibroids naturally by changing your diet, lifestyle, and using strategic supplements.
Fibroids are two to three times more likely to develop in women of African descent. In one case study it highlighted that black women are more than 80% more likely to struggle with fibroids as compared to women of other ethnicities.
Fibroids, more often than not are caused by elevated estrogen levels, high inflammation, and poor detoxification. Although there is no definitive reason for why so women struggle with fibroids. On every hormone panel I’ve seen with my clients who have fibroids, estrogens have been quite elevated. There are many ways to shrink your fibroids naturally. There are foods that are beneficial and important things to keep in mind when working towards shrinking your fibroids.
Fibroids Shrinking Foods
Avocado, this creamy delicious fruit is an amazing source of fibre. Fibre is going to be beneficial in supporting detoxification pathways and eliminating excess hormones. Avocado is also rich in potassium which helps lower inflammation.
Egg Yolks are high in vitamin D. Vitamin D has been shown to reduce your risk of fibroids by more than 30%! It’s important to consume the egg yolks, thanks to all the goodness packed in that sunny centre. But, Mother Nature makes foods in their whole form for a reason! Enjoy the egg white and egg yolk for maximum benefit!
Flax Seeds helps balance estrogen levels in the body and fibre helps eliminate excess hormones and toxins. Flaxseeds can also be enjoyed through seed cycling! Seed cycling is a great hormone balancing practice.
Green Tea: has an antioxidant in it called epigallocatechin gallate. This antioxidant has been shown to slow down the growth of fibroids by fighting inflammation and estrogen dominance.
Broccoli Sprouts: have a nutrient called indole-3-carbinol (I3C). When broken down I3C is a potent antioxidant and detoxification helper. I3C breaks down in diindolemethane (DIM) and is used by the liver for maximum detox efforts!
Fibroids Shrinking Hacks
Avoid conventional meat and dairy. Conventionally raised meat and dairy products can be high in antibiotics, synthetic hormones, and other chemicals that may disrupt your hormones. These synthetic hormones and foods that promote hormone imbalance will elevate estrogen levels and cause symptoms.
Avoid birth control. Birth control blocks your hormone production, so acts as a band-aid solution for your fibroids. In some women, birth control worsens their fibroids and symptoms. Birth control is not a long term, sustainable solution for your fibroids.
Avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates. Sugar and refined carbohydrates like white flour, can spike insulin (blood sugar) levels and lead to hormones going out of whack. When balancing your hormones, it’s important to keep insulin and inflammation in check, meaning avoiding sugar and refined carbohydrates.
