How to make Brown Butter Apple Cake:

Brown butter is really easy to make and that’s the first step in this recipe. In a skillet or pot over medium heat add the butter. Let the butter melt and then reduce the heat to medium-low. Continue to stir and cook the butter until it turns golden brown, about 5-10 minutes.

Pour your browned butter into a bowl and whisk in the brown sugar. Add the eggs into the bowl and whisk well to combine. Stir in the flour, spices, and baking powder. Fold in the chopped apples, you can either peel the apples or leave them unpeeled, whichever you prefer.

Pour your batter into an 8x8 square or an 8 inch round pan that you’ve lined with parchment.

Bake your cake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.

To make the drizzle, whisk together apple cider and icing sugar and drizzle with a spoon over the cooled cake. Slice and enjoy for dessert, breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack with a cuppa tea!

Ingredients
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon allspice
2 cups all-purpose flour

Icing
1 tablespoon apple cider
1/2 cup icing sugar

Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Line an 8x8 pan or 8-inch round pan with parchment paper.
2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbling, reduce heat to medium-low and continue to cook and stir the butter until it's caramel brown.
3. Pour browned butter into a large bowl and whisk in the brown sugar. Add the eggs and whisk to combine.
4. Stir in the spices, baking powder, and flour. Fold in the apples.
5. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
6. To make the icing, whisk together apple cider and icing sugar. Drizzle the icing over your cooled cake.
