Kitchen Renovation Plans and Inspiration

Friends! We are right around the corner from tearing down wall and renovating our main floor so I thought it would be fun to write a blog post to show you our mood boards, some of our plans from our architect, and our inspiration photos from Pinterest that Topher and I love!

This post is really focused on our kitchen because it’s one of the spaces where there will be the biggest differences and changes. Currently, we have a sunroom off of our kitchen, so with this renovation, taking the wall between the kitchen and sunroom down we’re pushing the kitchen into the sunroom. We’re also taking the wall down between the kitchen and living room and the wall between the kitchen and dining room to open up that side of our main floor.

Here is a look at what our new kitchen will roughly look like, this drawing is from our architect and is not the final drawing. For example, we won’t have two sinks and will not have a sink in our island. We’ll also be extending the countertop on the back wall to the end of the wall, we won’t have the cabinet that is currently shown. There are other tweaks that we need to make, but this is a great general idea of what we’re doing!

In our kitchen we’re adding a large island with extra storage and seating, we’re going with a six-burner gas stove and “cabinet-ready” fridge and dishwasher so that the appliances look integrated with the cabinetry. We’re swapping our laminate floors for engineered hardwood and laminate countertops for quartz countertops.

We’ve chosen our flooring and we’re going with Beaulieu Floors in Champagne from the Regale collection. We love the Silestone Et Calacatta Gold Quartz countertops. I love the warm grey and brown veining in them, we aren’t one hundred percent sure about those countertops, but we both really like them! For our backsplash, I think we’re going with brick tile from Fireclay Tile in the colour Olympic. We’ve bought our beautiful kitchen faucet which is this DeVOL unlacquered brass faucet. I’ve been eyeing these drawer pulls from Rejuvenation and these knobs are stunning. I’m also obsessed with these latches. Our cabinetry will be custom-made and finished and we’re going with the colour Swiss Coffee from Benjamin Moore.

Here’s our kitchen mood board:

One of the things I’m most excited about is the pantry that we’re building off of the kitchen. You can see in the image below how it’ll look, again this isn’t the final product and the design will look different than the image, but it gives an idea of the layout. In the pantry, we’ll have a wall oven, appliance storage, and lots of cabinetry.

Kitchens we love and inspiration for our renovation

This is Tori Wesszer’s kitchen and it is so beautiful! I love the lighting and extra deep island. One thing we are definitely using thanks to her recommendation is adding extra space between the island and exterior wall. Check out her blog for her full kitchen reveal, it’s dreamy!

I absolutely love all the warm tones in this kitchen from Cozy and Kin. The gold hardware, unlacquered brass faucet, and natural warm wood tones make this kitchen look lived in and it feels so cozy.

This stunning kitchen is from the home of Two Spoons creator and food blogger Hannah Sunderani. One of my favourite designers Tiffany Leigh Piotrowski designed this beautiful kitchen. We were fortunate enough to have Tiffany consult on our floor plan and design choices and I can’t recommend working with her enough, she is so talented and kind. Check out the full write up and all the stunning photos of Hannah’s kitchen on Tiffany’s blog.

Well friends, that about covers our renovation plans for our kitchen. At this point we’re just waiting for our engineer to complete our plans given we are taking out two load bearing walls and then demolition will start! Eeekk!! I cannot wait for some walls to come down and for our renovation to begin. I’m looking forward to seeing how we can implement some of these stunning elements into our kitchen renovation. I’m excited to document this process and take you along with us. Tell me in the comments what you want to see documented during this renovation process.
