Our House Tour Continued!

Welcome back to Part Two of our House Tour! I really wanted to share the entire tour in one post and video, but it just would’ve been tooooo long, so I split it up and now I’m thrilled to share the second floor of our house with you and what I’m thinking design and decor-wise.

Upstairs, we have two bathrooms, two linen closets and five rooms. Out of that space, we’re using two of the rooms as bedrooms, one room as my office, one room as a storage space, and the final room as a flex space. You’ll see on each of the bedroom doors a number, 1, 2, and 3. These numbers were used for assigning rooms when this house operated as a Bed and Breakfast. I will definitely be removing the numbers from the doors, but since they are glued on, I will have to paint all the doors when I take the numbers off, so it’s a project in and of itself. I figure as I tackle each room, I will also deal with the room numbers and paint the doors and trim.

Now, let’s starts this tour!

Stairway/Hallway

This beige stairwell is the colour that the entryway, living room, and Topher’s office all were. So, we’ve already started some of the rooms with a clean slate. Going from dingy walls to a fresh coat of white paint is honestly one of the easiest, most-impactful, least expensive changes you can make in your space. You’ll see that we have carpeting on the stairs and throughout the second floor. Honestly, I don’t hate the carpeting, but I’d rather hardwood and cohesive flooring throughout the house. Eventually, we’ll change out all the flooring to be one, uniform light hardwood and do a runner on the carpet to avoid slips and falls.

For now, we’ll be painting this stairway, replacing the fan with a light fixture, adding framed photos and in the hallway upstairs we will paint, change out the nipple lights and add artwork.

Principal Bedroom

Our bedroom has already been transformed from a dark teal space to a creamy, delicious, velvety white, which I’m telling you makes a world of difference! The colour is Dove White by Benjamin Moore. This is the first space that I want to tackle. Here’s what I’m thinking, a DIY bench at the foot of the bed, give Topher’s dresser a facelift, make the wall that our bed is on a board and batten focal point wall, add a mirror and light fixture to the area above my dresser, adding in new bedside tables and lamps and swap the ceiling fan for an interesting light fixture. Are you sensing a ceiling fan trend here?! ;) Stay tuned for this makeover, it’s going to be so fun and look beautiful!

Guest Bedroom #2

This guest bedroom is sunshiney yellow. No shade to anyone who loves yellow, but if you know anything about me, I am NOT a fan of yellow (or for that matter red or orange!). This bedroom is going to have a fun makeover. The nice thing about guest rooms, is you can have a bit of fun and experiment with different design and techniques. I’m planning on making the wall that the bed is on into the focal point using paint, I’m trying to decide between leaning into different shades of pink in this room or going with different shades of blue/grey/greens. Tell me in the comments which you vote for! Other than paint, this room needs some bedside tables, lights, and we’ll see what else!

Our Bathroom

This bathroom is basic, but it works. Is it perfect and dreamy and spa-like? Nope. In a couple years time, I’d love to expand it into a bathroom/walk-in closet combo by taking the wall between the storage room and bathroom down. For now, the main concern is storage, so we’ll start there and see where we go!

Guest Bathroom

I’m so excited to tackle this space because I have SO many ideas! I’d love to add some trim to the bottom half of the walls and go pink on the top half of the walls and white on the bottom half. In addition to that, I’m thinking a new smaller vanity with more storage, new floors, and we’re thinking of tiling the bath/shower area, which is vinyl right now, so we’d hire someone for that. We’re also going to install a new light over the mirror, swap out the mirror, and add a new blind to the window. All in all, this bathroom is going to be way nicer than ours, which is making me think I’m a bit bonkers…

My Office

Ahh, my office. Fun fact, I moved my office from the “flex-space” to this room in January because having my office in the other room just didn’t feel right. I didn’t feel inspired or creative, so now I have a room with a VIEW, I’m literally looking over lake Ontario as I write this post! How incredible is that, right?! Anyways, before moving my office in here, it was a denim blue colour and we were using it as another guestroom/flexroom/who-knows-what room. I painted it Simply White (yes, it’s my fave white!), installed a new light fixture and added a gallery wall. Next up in this space is a faux-built-in that I’m going to make. It’s going to be open shelving on the top and closed storage with a mix of doors and drawers on the bottom. It’ll be a big project, but I’m super stoked to start measuring, cutting, screwing, and painting the built-in that’s been in my mind for months now!

Flex Space

The last room on this tour is our Flex Space. I’m calling this a flex space because we aren’t sold on how we want to use this space. We’ve talked about adding a futon in here for guests or making it a library or den area. There’s also talk of it being our seed-starting room in March and April. So, for now, it’s staying put as is, and we’ll see down the line what happens with this space!

Well, that’s our house! I’m so grateful for this space and property that we get to call ours. If you missed part one of our house tour, documenting the main floor, you can catch that post here.

I cannot wait to start tackling all the rooms and making this house truly feel like home (although, it already does!) and take it to the next level! Stay tuned for this journey and let me know in the comments which room you are most excited to see transformed!
